UltraMaroon Pride 2024 – Bears in Space.
As UltraMaroon launches into summer programming, we begin with our third annual Pride event. This year, Someone From Berlin welcomes very special guests from the West Coast, Bears in Space. As a continuation of connecting queer space creators near and far, Bears in Space shares many similar values as UltraMaroon, served with their own particular panache. Composed of Chris Bowen and Victor Rodriguez, this duo has been keeping it queer, weird, and underground in California for more than fifteen years as well as making the festival rounds together at Love International, Somos, Desertopia, and Camp Caftan.
A conversation with Kraft und Licht.
For the fifth regular season finale of UltraMaroon this month, the theme of this episode is connecting UltraMaroon to the Amsterdam underground. As Someone From Berlin says, UM does not produce an underground event; however, it is informed by what is happening in underground scenes globally, and then does its own thing. With this in mind, we are proud to present a collaboration with Kraft und Licht, as part of their creative team, Subduction and VentroMedial, represents a taste of how their production crew creates audio-visual experiences together.
A conversation with Sef Kombo.
DJ and producer Sef Kombo has been immersed in the vibe, the rhythm, the culture, and the deeper roots of Afro House for more than 15 years at home in the UK and across the globe. He has played alongside Black Coffee, Themba, Culoe De Song, Diplo, and Black Motion. Kombo is recognized on the international stage, having played at Defected Croatia and Roskilde Festival as well as for Boiler Room, DJ Mag, Hï Ibiza, Djoon, Watergate, and Blue Marlin.
A conversation with BIIANCO.
BIIANCO is the multi-instrumental music producer, vocalist and overall mad-scientist in a new era of electronic music. The common threads of playful acid, breaks and trance that run through the punchy productions are reminiscent of the Chemical Brothers with the mainstream appeal of a more emotional Jamie XX. They’ve garnered press from outlets like NOTION, Wonderland Mag, Billboard, EDM Identity, tmrw and more, while also catching the attention of pioneering tastemaker labels such as Armada, This Never Happened and Part Four.
A conversation with Peter Napoli.
Peter Napoli is a true artist, homegrown in New York City, and part of the UltraMaroon fam. With more than fifteen years behind the decks, he has built a sound that respects the history of NYC’s legendary clubbing eras and continues pushing it forward. Napoli takes crowds on a journey with a blend of all genres of dance music at venues across all of North and South America, and continues to build his music production skills with labels including Aviance Records, Swishcraft Music, and Whore House Recordings.
A conversation with Maxinne.
To close out the year, Someone From Berlin has pulled a true tech house DJ’s DJ booking for us. Hailing from the UK, Maxinne is at the top of her game across the globe, having played Studio 338 and Ministry of Sound in London to Lost Beach Ecuador and all over North America. With massive releases on labels including Knee Deep In Sound, Circus Recordings, Saved Records, and Toolroom, you’re sure to recognize her work from some of your favorite nights on the dance floor.
A conversation with Jess Bays.
As UltraMaroon’s second guest from the UK this year, Jess Bays comes to our house for the big finish to her first North American tour. Having made her mark on decks at Ministry of Sound, Printworks, and WeAreFSTVL as well as in Croatia, Brazil, and Ibiza; Bays is bringing her sound to the world as she also prepares for her first Australia/NZ/Fiji tour that begins December 8.
A conversation with Steven Redant.
Recognized internationally as a progressive force for tribal house on the global circuit over the years, Steven Redant is better known in New York City for his UltraMaroon and Fire Island Pines sets that speak to his full range of styles that keep dancefloors energized.
A conversation with Monki.
If you’ve been following us, you know sound curation is at the core of what we do. We’re therefore very excited about having DJ Monki with us a the Pines Party, who you house heads will recognize as one of the regular Defected radio hosts. As usual, DavidxDaisy is on hand to help us get to know her a bit better. Check it out!
A conversation with Juliet Mendoza.
One of the DJ selection themes we’ve been exploring this season at UltraMaroon is around what goes on in other cities. We hit up Detroit with Rimarkable, and for Pride brought in a bit of a London vibe. For IndepenDANCE we decided to go west!
If you ask the question “who is the queen of house music in Los Angeles” to anyone who knows anything, they’ll point to Juliet Mendoza. We’re really excited for her to join us, and ahead of her first gig on Fire Island we asked DavidxDaisy to help us get to know her a bit better. Check it out!
PRIDE 2023 — A conversation with King James Lee
Where as our Pride 2022 event was about celebrating Season 3, we’ve decided to make Pride 2023 a bit forward looking! This month marks the start of our goal to build bridges between our UltraMaroon community and other cities/crews making queer house music spaces.
To kick us off, we have invited King James Lee, co-founder of London’s ROAST party and creative director at London’s oldest place to rave, Eletrowerkz to help us ring in the queerest time of the year. What do we have in common with our UK siblings? Read DavidxDaisy’s feature to find out!
A conversation Tedd Patterson & David Harness
Last month at UltraMaroon we met a few legends of the Detroit House scene. This month we’re sticking with the theme of legends, but going from the midwest to the coasts. Our April show will mark Tedd Patterson’s third time playing at UltraMaroon, and this time we decided to change it up by asking him to bring San Francisco based David Harness along for some B2B fun. Ahead of that, we asked DavidxDaisy to help us get to know them both a little bit better! Check it out…
A Detroit House History Lesson with Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale and Al Ester
Detroit is the birthplace of Techno, but what about House? In order to figure this one out we decided to join forces with the one and only Rimarkable for UltraMaroon’s first co-curation. Together we selected two of the Detroit scene’s O.G.s that could not only represent the genre/location intersection, but also the queerness and the blackness of it all: the Godmother of House, Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale and Al Ester. They’ll be joining us on Sunday, March 19, and ahead of that we asked Daisy to help us get to know what we’re getting into. Click through — this is a special read!
A conversation with Someone From Berlin
On Friday, March 10, UltaMaroon creator and resident Someone From Berlin makes his Eagle NYC DJ debut. DavidXDaisy got the scoop what to expect as he prepares for his set at this iconic NYC institution.
A conversation with Alexis Tucci
Alexis Tucci is back for Season 4, Episode 5 and she’s bringing a few horny friends! Ahead of her return, we asked DavidxDaisy to get us a bit of insight into our favorite Saint Louis based smiling selector. Check it out!
A Homecoming Talkback with Lupe Fuentes, Scott Martin and Someone From Berlin
For Season 4, Episode 4, everyone is coming home! With Scott Martin and Lupe Fuentes in the house, we asked DavidXDaisy to dive into the origins of UltraMaroon and how the trio, including Someone From Berlin, have impacted one another over the years. Check it out!
Get to know Krys Fox
While many of you may just know the smiling face scanning you in at the door, our very own Krys Fox is actually an award-winning and accomplished photographer! He’s had multiple sold-out gallery shows here in NYC and across the pond, and was recently on Hulu’s first reality show, Exposure. Check him out!
