Features
As UltraMaroon launches into summer programming, we begin with our third annual Pride event. This year, Someone From Berlin welcomes very special guests from the West Coast, Bears in Space. As a continuation of connecting queer space creators near and far, Bears in Space shares many similar values as UltraMaroon, served with their own particular panache. Composed of Chris Bowen and Victor Rodriguez, this duo has been keeping it queer, weird, and underground in California for more than fifteen years as well as making the festival rounds together at Love International, Somos, Desertopia, and Camp Caftan.
For the fifth regular season finale of UltraMaroon this month, the theme of this episode is connecting UltraMaroon to the Amsterdam underground. As Someone From Berlin says, UM does not produce an underground event; however, it is informed by what is happening in underground scenes globally, and then does its own thing. With this in mind, we are proud to present a collaboration with Kraft und Licht, as part of their creative team, Subduction and VentroMedial, represents a taste of how their production crew creates audio-visual experiences together.
DJ and producer Sef Kombo has been immersed in the vibe, the rhythm, the culture, and the deeper roots of Afro House for more than 15 years at home in the UK and across the globe. He has played alongside Black Coffee, Themba, Culoe De Song, Diplo, and Black Motion. Kombo is recognized on the international stage, having played at Defected Croatia and Roskilde Festival as well as for Boiler Room, DJ Mag, Hï Ibiza, Djoon, Watergate, and Blue Marlin.
BIIANCO is the multi-instrumental music producer, vocalist and overall mad-scientist in a new era of electronic music. The common threads of playful acid, breaks and trance that run through the punchy productions are reminiscent of the Chemical Brothers with the mainstream appeal of a more emotional Jamie XX. They’ve garnered press from outlets like NOTION, Wonderland Mag, Billboard, EDM Identity, tmrw and more, while also catching the attention of pioneering tastemaker labels such as Armada, This Never Happened and Part Four.
